Why Is My E-cigarette Crackling?
Why is my e-cigarette crackling?
This is a normal phenomenon caused by the temperature rise of the resistance coil. When you use your e-cigarette, e-liquid is pulled into your atomizer head, and the coil inside the atomizer head would heats up when you press the button. The coil then evaporates your e-liquid into a vapor that you can inhale. Meanwhile, the e-liquid in the atomizing core reaches a boiling point, resulting in the characteristic crackling sound.
Don't panic. Everything is fine
It is very common for an e-cigarette to start to crackle when you use it, which is a perfectly normal reaction. The boiling point of propylene glycol and glycerol, the main components of the e-liquid, is 185°. Therefore, when the resistance coil is first heated up, the temperature will increase rapidly, which will cause the e-liquid to boil rapidly.
Crackling doesn't mean there's a problem with the device. However, the potential risk of e-liquid spillage into the mouth remains. The feeling may be unpleasant, but it is harmless.
Enthusiasts of reconfigurable atomizers are well aware of this phenomenon. When they are assembling their own resistance coils and inserting the cotton core, once the core is immersed in the e-liquid, it usually activates the battery to check that the Settings are correct. At that point, there will be a crackling sound and you will see a splash of liquid or steam. Plus, it's a great opportunity for macro photography enthusiasts to take great pictures.
All in all, if your e-cigarette crackles, it confirms that current is flowing through the resistance coil and that the wick has an adequate supply of e-liquid. However, if the crackling is too strong or too fast, it may mean that the battery is not compatible with the resistance coil. In this case, check whether your resistance coil matches the device.
Is there a problem if my e-cigarette doesn't crackle?
While it's common for resistance coils to crackle, not all resistance coils do. If there's no crackling sound, it doesn't mean there's a problem with the device, and some e-cigarettes are almost silent when used.
To sum up, crackling is a normal phenomenon when using an e-cigarette.
